Hi everyone!

I thought this week we could look at creating a boho chic living room, I personally love mixing styles!

Similarly to the other “House Decor Style” posts, I am going to take you through the various stages of the design process.

  1. Concept Design

In this first stage, we are looking at defining the overall “personality” of the room, what kind of aesthetics we want to put forward and what feelings to express.

In the case of a Boho Chic space, we are looking for a laid back feel whilst at the same time having refined and elegant touches, making the space feel more sophisticated but not too much to take away the relaxed feeling. To achieve that, we need to mix different influences and materials in a balanced manner.

So in this concept, I chose to balance “noble / luxury” materials with more natural ones such as velvet vs cotton and brass vs wood.
I particularly liked the idea of a center piece velvet sofa in a rich, dark tone such as a deep green or teal to bring a visual contrast and a touch of luxury, coupled with more “natural” materials like the Berber rug and cotton cushions to balance things out.
Brass finishes are also introduced as the second main touch of sophistication in either some of the furniture or the lighting, but is again balanced by warmer materials such a wood or rattan.
In terms of flooring, a wood (or wood effect) floor would suit perfectly, but natural, plant based carpets such as sisal would also look great with this concept (make sure to read this blog post if you need more info about carpets).
The colour palette favours natural and earthy tones, apart from the velvet of the sofa and touches of black to bring further contrast.
Oh and let’s not forget about windows treatment, white sheer curtains, with pinch pleats, are perfect here. If they are casually sweeping the floor that’s even better for this laid back feel.

2. Sample Selections

As the design develops, and depending on your room, its dimensions and specifics, the concept design matures and specific items can be specified.

I have included here some examples to give you ideas but of course, you will need to take into consideration what can be incorporated into your room and what can’t, particularly when it comes to dimensions and lighting as for example, I have some pendant lights but you might only have spotlights.

To find and purchased stocked items that would work wonders to create a boho chic interior head over to my favorite products.
