Hi everyone!

Another week, another room and another style: we are having this week a charming dining room in a country farmhouse style!

I hope you enjoy going through the process and looking at the boards as much as I took pleasure doing them, you see being French and having been raised in a remote area, some aspects of the farmhouse style reminds me so much of home, my grandparents, elders of the village and overall surroundings as a child. And what better room to start with than a dining room?

  1. Concept Design

Country farmhouse translates for me as being close to nature and living in sync with it, little consumerism, a slower pace of life and time spent with family and friends.

To apply these principles to an interior, and specifically here to a dining room, I approached the concept from two different angles:

  • Using as many and as much natural materials as possible, really making the most of what the Earth intrinsically provides us with.

  • Upcycling as much as possible, using family heirlooms and various items passed down from previous generations even if it means having a slight mix match of aged items.

Wood is therefore key in this scheme, as well as linens, handmade ceramics, earthy tones and muted colours.

2. Sample Selections

My sample selections are new items but really, pieces already in the family or from an antique shop are even better.

Either way, the selections below will give you plenty of ideas and options. As always take into consideration what can be incorporated into your room and what can’t, particularly when it comes to dimensions and lighting, and feel free to browse my favorite products to find and purchase stocked items.
